2027 Calendar UK: Bank Holiday Dates for England, Wales, Scotland & NI

Planning holidays, childcare or time off for next year? Knowing the 2027 UK bank holiday dates early makes it much easier to book leave, arrange travel and avoid clashes. This guide lists every 2027 bank holiday for England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, explains why a few of the dates move, and suggests how to use them on a printable calendar.
All dates below come from the official list published on GOV.UK. It is always worth double-checking there before booking anything, as the government can occasionally add or move a bank holiday (as happened for royal events in recent years).

Why are Christmas bank holidays on 27 and 28 December in 2027?
In 2027, Christmas Day falls on a Saturday and Boxing Day on a Sunday. When a bank holiday lands on a weekend, a "substitute day" is usually given on the next weekday. That is why the Christmas bank holidays in 2027 are Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December across the UK.
The same rule explains Scotland's 4 January date. The 2nd of January 2027 is a Saturday, so the Scottish bank holiday moves to Monday 4 January.
When is Easter 2027?
Easter Sunday 2027 is on 28 March, which is relatively early. That puts Good Friday on 26 March and Easter Monday on 29 March. Because Easter moves every year, it is one of the dates people most often look up. If you have children, remember that school Easter holidays are set by your local authority or school and do not always line up exactly with the Easter weekend, so check your school's term dates too.
Are bank holidays a day off work?
Not automatically. In the UK there is no statutory right to paid time off on bank holidays. Many employers give bank holidays off and count them as part of your paid holiday entitlement, but whether you work them, and whether you get extra pay, depends on your contract. If you are unsure, check your contract or ask your employer. GOV.UK and Acas both have clear guidance on holiday entitlement.
How to make the most of 2027's bank holidays
Spot the long weekends
Most bank holidays in 2027 fall on a Monday or Friday, which gives you natural long weekends. Easter is the standout: Good Friday and Easter Monday together create a four-day weekend in England, Wales and Northern Ireland using no annual leave at all.
Book leave around them early
If your workplace allocates leave on a first-come basis, adding a day or two next to a bank holiday can stretch a break considerably. For example, in England and Wales taking the four working days between Easter Monday and the following weekend gives you a ten-day break.
Plan Christmas 2027 with the substitute days in mind
Because the Christmas bank holidays are on the Monday and Tuesday, the festive break in 2027 may feel slightly different from usual. Shops, GP surgeries, banks and delivery services often change their opening hours, so it is worth noting the dates early.
Use a printable calendar with bank holidays already marked
Writing every date into a new calendar is tedious, and it is easy to miss one. Our 2027 printable calendar is a Monday-start calendar with a year-at-a-glance page and twelve monthly pages, with the England and Wales bank holidays already marked. It prints at A4 or US Letter, so you can pin it to a noticeboard, keep it in a folder or add it to a planner.
If you prefer more space to write, the 2027 monthly planner gives you a full page per month, and the 2027 weekly planner gives you one week per page for appointments and to-dos. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, simply add your extra dates from the tables above.
Planning ahead for the end of this year as well? The Pennaby Christmas Bundle (£7.99) includes the 2027 calendar together with our Christmas Planner and gift tags, and our free Christmas countdown printable is a nice way to get December organised first.
